Mysore Attractions

Mysore is the second largest city in the Southern Indian state of Karnataka. Its distance 130 km from the state capital Benglore.It is situated at the base of Chamundi Hills. Dussehra celebrations famous festival during which a large number of tourists visit the city.This festival is celebrated for a period of 10 days and it was started by King Raja Wodeyar I in the year 1610.This city has an ancient charm with a modern flavor known for its silk sarees and sandalwood oil.Today it has developed into a modern city.But this city has not lost touch with its rich historical and cultural legacy. Mysore city is a favourite tourist destination in Karnataka. Mysore, a city of palaces, gardens and temples is visited by tourists from all over the world.



Famous attractions of mysore:

Chamundi Hills:Chamundi hills popular destination and the temple on top of the hills.The Brindavan Gardens is situated at a distance of 19 kilometers from the center of the city.


 


Mysore Palace:The Mysore Palace is one of the chief Mysore tourists attractions and is a living exponent of the Indo Saracenic style of architecture. The palace was constructed in the year 1912 for the twenty fourth king of the Wodeyar dynasty. Designed by the British architect, Henry Irwin, the palace of Mysore is one of the biggest palaces of the country.



Brindavan Gardens:Brindavan Gardens Located about 19kms from the heart of Mysore these beautiful gardens are laid out below the Krishnaraja Sagar dam built across the river Cauvery. These gardens are famous for the illuminated dancing fountains.


Mysore Zoo:Mysore Zoo was established in the year of 1892 by Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar. The various animals that are exhibited in the zoological gardens of Mysore are provided with large, spacious and open enclosures.


St. Philomena's Church:The St. Philomena's Church in Mysore is one of the oldest churches in India. It is over 200 years old. Initially over 250 years ago there was a small church in its place.



Lalitha Mahal:The Lalitha Mahal Hotel is located at the foot of Chamundi hill. The Mysore Palace and other places of tourist interest like the cultural museums are in close vicinity.


Rajendra Vilas:The Rajendra Vilas palace is located on top of Chamundi Hills, at an elevation of nearly 1,000 feet.

Kukkarahali Lake :The Kukkaranahali Lake is located within the Manasa Gangothri which is the campus of the Mysore University.The huge and variety of bird population at the Kukkarahali Lake attracts a number of bird watchers to the area.


Karanji Lake:he Karanji Lake is located at the foot hills of the Chamundi mountains which is just behind the Mysore Zoo. It spreads over 90 acres and is home to more than 90 species of resident and migratory birds. The lake has boating facilities that are available on all days except Tuesday.



 


Jaganmohan Art Galary:Jaganmohan Art Gallery is a vast reserve of exquisite paintings and artifacts of the bygone golden era. Situated within the luxuriant Mysore Palace, the Jaganmohan Art Gallery bears testimony to the enriched traditional art and craft of the ancient times.
